Eight-year-old Lewis Wilkinson, a prize-winning Silkie exhibitor from Western Super Mare, is the latest ambassador to join the easichick team. Lewis’ love of chickens started when he was only four after his mum managed to convince him that cows weren’t the most convenient pets to keep!
Lewis keeps white Silkies and has a cockerel and hen at the moment. “Chirp the hen is quite sassy which I bred myself and Poldark is the cockerel, he’s a real gentleman to Chirp,” said Lewis
Lewis’ mum Carrie said: “I have used easibed for my horses so knew about easibedding and started using easichick specially designed poultry bedding a couple of years ago. I like that the bedding doesn’t blow around the garden and they have a lovely thick comfortable bed that stays dry.”
Lewis likes to show off his pair at junior and Silkie classes and has won Champion Juvenile at both the North Somerset Show and The Royal Welsh Show, plus Champion Junior Handler at The Devon County Show.
“We’re going to the National Show and the Federation Show in December so hope Chirp and Poldark are on their best behaviour to add to my rosettes,” said Lewis.
Lewis cleans out his Omlet coop every Saturday to ensure his chickens have a clean home and he puts in extra bedding on the tray for them to dust bathe in. “They’re quite difficult to keep clean being white, but easichick helps because the poo is so easy to pick out sitting on the top of the bed,” Carrie added.
Lewis is also an ambassador for Omlet chicken coops and Brinsea incubators.
