Congratulations to Woody’s Horse of the Month for September: Jim (Island Hero) and his owner Tia Gilligan.

Here is what Tia told us about their journey together…

‘My name is Tia Gilligan and my horses name is Jim (Island Hero) our story is that I had a rotational fall and broke my pelvis in 3 places and fractured a lot of ribs, I was in hospital for a week and on crutches for 6 months, I was actually on crutches when I brought Jim. 🙈

I had lost a lot of confidence and Jim was a legend.

He has really helped me regain all my confidence after my nearly fatal fall (thank god I was wearing a body protector!)

Then at the start of this year, Jim went really funny when being ridden and I got a vet out.

He was diagnosed with severe arthritis of the neck and also in his poll.

We injected, but there was a 50% chance he would need to be retired.

After the injections and 3 rounds of shockwave he still wasn’t 100% and I was told to consider retirement if he didn’t come right in the next 2 weeks.

At the very last moment he finally came right again!

The vets said it was a miracle!

It’s like my prayers had been answered!

Now many months later, we’re finally getting out and competing.

It’s been an extremely long journey to get here and I wasn’t even sure we ever would!

I would never be where I am today without him and he’s helped so many younger children learn to ride. I really think he’s deserving of being your horse of the month!
